An apparent screw-up on Britain’s government website accidentally revealed the date for Prince Philip’s funeral — the morning of Saturday, April 17, a report said Friday.
The 99-year-old royal died Friday at his home at Windsor Castle, where he and his wife, Queen Elizabeth II, had been staying during the COVID-19 lockdown.
“On April 9, 2021, Buckingham Palace announced the death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh,” read the since-deleted posting to the Gov.uk website, as revealed Friday by the British news site Express.co.uk.
“From this date, a period of national mourning began and will continue for eight days until the morning of the funeral,” the apparently mistakenly posted announcement continued.
“During that time the Government will issue guidance for the public, organisations and businesses for observing the period of mourning,” it said.
The government website currently only says, “further announcements will be made in due course.”
Buckingham Palace has been cautious about hyping any details of the funeral — due to coronavirus restrictions and Philip’s stated aversion to “any fuss.”
His dying wish had been to pass away peacefully at home, sources have told The Post.
